Realistic Coloured Pencil Pet Portraits
A Coloured Pencil Pet Portrait drawing is a one-of-a-kind gift for any special occasion, whether it be a birthday, Christmas, graduation gift or even just in memorial of a beloved pet who has crossed the rainbow bridge! I am always up for a challenge and ready to draw whatever kind of pet you have – whether it be a cat portrait, dog portrait, tortoise portrait or even a tarantula! Pet Portraits can however be done in OIL PAINT or WATERCOLOUR too.
A good quality photograph is required to achieve a good likeness. I try to capture all the special details that make your pet unique, as well as their quirky personalities. It is very important for me to capture the personality and the character of your pet.
Apart from pet portraits drawings, I am also available for wildlife and botanical drawing commissions too.
Pet Portrait Drawing Portfolio
The Pet Portrait Drawing
I only use professional quality coloured pencils and the finest quality artist’s paper or drafting film. All portraits are completed in high quality, lightfast coloured pencils on acid-free, archival quality paper – ensuring that your portrait will last a very long time if cared for as instructed.
Pet portrait drawings are sold unframed, pencil drawings do however require framing as these need to be protected and sealed from dust and moisture and prevent the pencil from smearing.
I always have a waiting list for commissions. Please book your portrait early to avoid disappointment as a pet portrait drawing can easily take me up to 100 hours to complete all the fine detail in my realistic drawing style.

PET PORTRAIT DRAWING FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What does it mean to Commission a Pet Portrait Drawing?
A client commissions a portrait when placing an order for a custom piece of art aka Portrait Drawing.
How do I go about commissioning (ordering) a drawing?
See the Price List above.
Email me with the SIZE of the pet portrait drawing you are interested in.
EMAIL me the reference photograph(s) you want me to draw.
I will forward you the Commission Agreement to sign and the invoice for payment of the deposit.
Your completed Commission Agreement and Proof of payment for the deposit secure your spot on the commission waiting list. NO EXCEPTION.
Do you require a deposit?
YES, I require a deposit AND a signed Commission Agreement in order to confirm your spot on the waiting list. No Exceptions.
What are your payment terms?
Standard Payment Terms
The standard payment terms require a 50% non-refundable deposit to confirm your spot on the commission list and the balance due upon completion of the artwork.
You are welcome to get in touch with me in regards to the different payment options – if you want to pay off the drawing over a longer period of time. (Payment plans are only available to clients paying via EFT.)
Do you accept Credit Card payments?
Yes, Credit Card payments can be arranged through PayFast’s secure payment portal.
I need the drawing urgently as a gift, how soon can you help me?
I will give you an estimated completion date at the time of ordering. It depends on my workload at the time of placing your order. I usually have a waiting list in place.
Each drawing is meticulously created with many, many, many layers of colour pencil, in very tiny strokes – a portrait can easily take me up to 100 hours (YES, your read correctly “ONE-HUNDRED-HOURS”) to complete.
Please let me know if you need the artwork by a specific date – so that we can find an option that works for both of us. Kindly note that there may be a RUSH FEE for a short deadline. Please discuss this with me BEFORE confirming your order – I would love to help, but unfortunately, it is NOT always possible. I take pride in what I do and I do not rush artwork – I want to give your artwork the love and attention it needs.
A RUSH-FEE, 25% of the invoice total, will be added to your invoice if you need to be ‘squeezed in’ to receive your order on a short deadline. I must put my entire commission list on hold to accommodate you and I would need to work overtime to catch up again on my priorly-promised deadlines as I would hate to disappoint clients that are already on my commission list. (Thank you, I am sure you understand.)
Please discuss this with me BEFORE confirming your order – I would love to help, but unfortunately, it is NOT always possible. As mentioned, I take pride in what I do and I do not rush artwork – I want to give your artwork the love and attention it needs. The RUSH-FEE will also apply if you need to rush your order, after booking while the order is already in progress.
If you have requested framing, it cannot be rushed and requires a minimum of an additional 2 weeks.
Do you draw Pet Portraits from photos and can multiple photos be combined into a painting?
Yes, I do paint from photographs.
Yes, we can combine multiple faces into a painting IF PRACTICALLY POSSIBLE. You are welcome to EMAIL me the photographs together with an explanation of what you have in mind.
What type of Photographs do you need?
I require a good photograph as I can only illustrate what I can see in an image. A High-resolution photograph will work best as I can zoom in to see detail. (High-resolution will be those straight off your camera’s memory card, your phones camera roll, or provided by a professional photographer.) Screenshots, photos downloaded from Facebook or Whatsapp are not always ideal and recommended, it is however still do-able if it is the only photo you have. I know it is not always possible, especially if the subject is deceased – in that case, please email me whatever you have. (I will let you know if it is useable.)
The photo should be well lit and have a natural colour. (All sorts of filters and effects are NOT usable.)
The photo should not have very dark shadows, especially over the important facial detail.
The photo should be in the desired pose.
The photo should clearly show the fur colour and eye colour of each pet.
Do you sell gift vouchers?
Yes, Gift Vouchers are available for purchase. Full payment is required on all Gift Vouchers. I can either email a Gift Voucher to you or sent you a physical Gift Voucher (courier delivery fees would apply).
The recipient of the Voucher has the option of paying in on a larger size portrait when they book their portrait.
My Gift Vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.
Do you accept international commissions?
YES, most definitely!
Worldwide shipping is available! International shipping needs to be quoted.

No prints or copies shall be made, or profit gained in any way, from the finished artwork by the Client (you), without the express written permission of the artist (Celia van Niekerk). Digital artwork can be used for personal use only and not for reselling purposes. When posting artwork on Social Media, the Client is obligated to tag or mention the Artist.
Pet Portrait Paintings (other mediums)
Pet Portraits can however be done in OIL PAINT or WATERCOLOUR too. It all comes down to a matter of taste – which medium you would prefer. Coloured Pencil Portraits and Watercolour Portraits need framing behind glass to protect the delicate nature of the artwork. An oil painting on stretched (blocked) canvas does not require framing and is ready to hang on your wall.
